Carey Carter
Carey Carter's fascination with nature began with hours of playing in the sand as a child and building sculptures. As an adult, she spent 19 years designing artistic and creative environments for companies. In 2019, she began her full-time career as a sculptor, looking for a way to create art using natural and sustainable earth materials. Today she lives and works in Franschoek, South Africa.
The artist researched old techniques and building methods until she developed a satisfactory recipe. Today she creates her sculptures from different colored sand, rock pigments and natural binding agents such as fly ash, magnesium oxide and lime.
Carey Carter's message emphasizes that the relationship between humans and nature requires care and gratitude, as well as a gentle and mindful way of life. She wants to call for us to treat the planet, on which we only stay for a short time, as carefully as possible.
