Gerhard Van der Westhuizen

Gerhard Van der Westhuizen is a South African artist born in Cape Town in 1970. Self-taught, he draws inspiration from people, deep feelings and spontaneous interests.

Gerhard's oil paintings are a blend of modern art and abstract expressionism, focusing on modern femininity and the appeal of the female form. These are predominantly large-scale works of art depicting faces with intense emotion, with the greatest focus on the eyes, "the window to the soul."

His most famous series is an exciting collection of catwalk images, inspired by the energy of models' movements at international fashion shows.

Gerhard works with oil paints on high quality stretch canvas, but also portrays some of his works on unconventional media such as special lightweight concrete panels. Gerhard's latest concept involves using a new resin sculpture technique to create unique 2-dimensional abstract faces or figures.

Internationally, Gerhard's artworks are presented at the SILO Gallery in Zurich, the SMOW in Frankfurt and the SOUL OF AFRIKA Gallery in Munich. In South Africa, his works are exhibited in his private art studio in Hout Bay, Cape Town and at the Art Curator Gallery in Somerset West.

Today, his unique works of art decorate the homes and offices of art lovers from all over the world.
