Artist : Bryan Cusack
Name : Hermes
Materials: Driftwood
Size: 60cm
Edition : Single copy
Origin: South Africa
Bryan Cusack's Driftwood sculpture was inspired by the material and mythological figure of Hermes. Shaped and weathered by nature, the driftwood symbolizes travel and transformation, much like Hermes, the god of travelers. Each piece tells the stories of countless travelers carried by the seas. Honoring nature's ability to shape and form, the sculpture reflects Hermes' influence on the ways of mortals, evoking the beauty of transformation and the journeys we all take.
Bryan Cusack, an Irish-born artist, has lived in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa since 1992 and specialises in sculptures made from driftwood that he collects from local beaches. His works depict South African wildlife and human figures in motion, inspired by the wild coast of Pondoland. The natural shapes and textures of the driftwood give his sculptures unique depth. Cusack is careful to only use driftwood and found objects to protect the environment. These nature-influenced sculptures are created in his studio near Durban, overlooking the sea.
This extraordinary work of art transports the inimitably powerful pulse of a modern Africa into your rooms. This spirit can unfold not only in your living room, but also in your office, your waiting room or your agency. All exhibits are selected by us directly in Africa because we want to act as ambassadors for contemporary artists living in Africa. In order to give something back to nature in Africa, we donate a portion of every purchase to selected African animal protection projects.
All our works can be viewed and picked up at the SOUL OF AFRIKA gallery at Lindwurmstraße 157, 80337 Munich.
