Benon Lutaaya was an artist, activist and art patron born in Uganda in 1985. After a stay in Johannesburg in 2011, where he had his breakthrough, he moved to South Africa. He used a mixed media approach in his works, which was due to initial resource constraints. His works have been collected by various prestigious institutions and he has received international recognition and awards. In 2016, he founded the non-profit arts organization "The Project Space" in Johannesburg and was actively involved in social causes before he died of cancer in 2019 at the age of just 34.
