Artist: Bryan Cusack
Name: Ballerina
Material: Driftwood
Size: 65cm
Edition: Single copy
Origin: South Africa
Bryan Cusack wanted to capture the delicate balance and graceful movements of a ballerina in his work by using driftwood, whose organic shapes and lines suggest fluidity and movement. Uniquely shaped by the elements, the pieces of wood symbolize the individuality and perseverance that art requires. The sculpture celebrates the harmony between nature and human expression, emphasizing strength in grace and beauty in resilience. It shows that even delicate art is based on perseverance and elegance lies in raw nature.
Irish-born artist Bryan Cusack has lived in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa since 1992 and specialises in sculptures made from driftwood that he collects from local beaches. His works primarily depict South African wildlife and human figures in motion. Inspired by the wild coast of Pondoland, he uses the natural shapes and textures of driftwood, which give his sculptures a unique depth. Cusack is careful to only use driftwood or found objects to protect the environment. In his studio near Durban, these weathered, nature-influenced sculptures are created overlooking the sea.
This extraordinary work of art transports the inimitably powerful pulse of a modern Africa into your rooms. This spirit can unfold not only in your living room, but also in your office, your waiting room or your agency. All exhibits are selected by us directly in Africa because we want to act as ambassadors for contemporary artists living in Africa. In order to give something back to nature in Africa, we donate a portion of every purchase to selected African animal protection projects.
All our works can be viewed and picked up at the SOUL OF AFRIKA gallery at Lindwurmstraße 157, 80337 Munich.
