The inspiration for this painting was a photograph by Paul Gorman from the 1960s. The motif has been reinterpreted by various designers and artists over time. This provocation has not been without its risks for the designers in the past. The young fashion designers Malcom McLaren and Vivien Westwood even went to court when they designed a T-shirt with this artwork in the 1970s. In light of the declining developments in rights for gay people, Kyle Jardine also reinterpreted this photograph. With the painting, the artist wants to celebrate love in all its forms and encourages people to live fearlessly and not to hide.
Kyle Jardine was born in South Africa. He came to art through his work as a theater actor and costume designer. As an artist and illustrator, he particularly prefers the contemporary pop art style. His work is characterized by a very unique naivety and theatricality that give everyday life a humorous personality. You can find more information about the artist Kyle Jardine here .
